Most people find it extremely hard to lose weight. This is mostly because they do not have a clue what is preventing them from losing weight. Why do they not know? Because they do not have any self-awareness! Self-awareness is the number one ingredient to weight loss success. When you know why, how and what you eat, you can overcome the reason you are putting on weight instead of losing it. This includes times of weight loss plateau. When you don’t know why you are going wrong it is time to be honest and start observing. Take a note pad and spend a few days observing and noting down what you eat, and how you feel. Write down what triggers you to eat. Are you generally hungry or is an upset/boredom or another emotion triggering you to eat. 9 times out of 10 it is usually emotional eating that destroys your ability to lose weight. Once you have spent 2-3 days observing you should have a clear indication of where you may be going wrong. Use a calorie counter like nutridiary.com to help you monitor your calories for a few days and to get back on track. Also make a list of alternatives to soothing your emotional discomfort instead of eating. Sometimes you may find you need to chat about it with a close friend, other times you may just need to go for a walk. If boredom is your number one culprit then write a list of things you have always wanted to do or would like to do and when bored go through them. Boredom is usually a sign that you need to be creative or do something. Gardening, painting, writing, making things with your kids – all these will help relieve boredom and prevent you from eating. Tackle your emotional needs and you will be well on your way to losing weight for good.
